Notes

• A thin final coat causes a lot of problems
• Make sure contains a mildewcide
• low VOC is preferable
• Never paint oil over latex
• 100% acrylic latex seems to be the way to go

Strategy

Start with trim. Starting at the garage prep, prime and paint the trim all the way around the house. Then follow the same way with the clapboard.

Paint Type

Either Benjamin Moore Aura Low Luster or Semi-Gloss.

• Quality paint,
• contains mildewcide,
• Low VOC paint, (EarthEasy Info).

Painting Preparation

The Paint Quality Institute has good information. We're painting wood, both Sound and Continuous and Flaking or Peeling

1. Remove any mildew with bleach solution (1 part bleach, 2 parts water)
2. Scrape any loose or flaky paint as much as possible
3. Sand
   1. Feather edges of scraped paint
   2. Sand all existing paint lightly to clean and rough surface ( try to smooth out crappy old paint jobs too )
4. Remove dust ( use damp rag or powerwash large sections the day before
